Our Musical Director
Helen Rathbone
Helen trained initially as a teacher at Homerton College Cambridge. She delayed taking up that profession for a few years (20!) to become first soprano with the international acappella group, the Swingle Singers. With the group she toured extensively and sang in many leading venues, including the Lincoln Centre, NY, Ronnie Scotts, and the Concertgebauw in Amsterdam. She stopped touring when her children were born, although continued to sing in a freelance capacity. In 2001 she decided to return to her first training and took a post as Head of Music at Oaklands School, where she still teaches. Helen has been the musical director of Evening Chorus since its inception.
Our Accompanist
Roger Bluff

He was Director of Music at Portsmouth Grammar School, then Bancroft’s School, retiring in 2016, then again in 2017. Since retiring, he has enjoyed life as a freelance musician, playing keyboard in musicals, accompanying 3 choirs (East London Evensong Choir, Felicitas, Cantus) in churches and cathedrals and occasionally helping out Evening Chorus.
